The Problem
A homeowner in Fort Wayne reached out after noticing water pooling along the side of their walkway every time it rained. Over time, the excess moisture caused the soil underneath the concrete to wash away, leaving parts of the sidewalk unsupported.
The slabs began to sink and shift unevenly, creating a noticeable trip hazard near the front entry of the home. The customer was worried someone could easily trip while walking to the door, especially during wet weather or at night.
They wanted the walkway fixed before the problem spread further or required full replacement.
What We Found
When the Restoration Concrete team inspected the walkway, we found:
- Soil washout underneath multiple sidewalk panels
- Water draining directly toward the slab edges
- Voids forming beneath the concrete
- Uneven slab movement creating height differences between panels
The concrete itself was still structurally solid, which made traditional mudjacking the best solution.
How We Fixed It
We used our traditional mudjacking process to raise and stabilize the affected walkway panels.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes were carefully drilled through the affected slabs to reach the empty spaces below.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Walkway
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the walkway to fill the voids, restore support, and raise the sinking concrete back into place.
Step 3: Patch & Clean Up
Once the walkway was raised, the holes were patched and the area was cleaned up.
The entire repair was completed quickly with very little disruption to the property.
The Results
The walkway was safely leveled and stabilized without tearing out or replacing the concrete.
The homeowner now has:
- A safer walkway with reduced trip hazards
- Improved drainage around the slab
- Stabilized soil beneath the concrete
- A cleaner, more even appearance
- A faster and more affordable solution compared to replacement
