The Problem
A homeowner in Butler noticed the driveway approach had settled several inches where it met the garage. The uneven concrete created a noticeable bump every time they drove in and out, while rainwater began collecting in the low area instead of draining away.
Concerned that the settlement would continue to worsen and eventually lead to cracks or replacement, they contacted Restoration Concrete to see if the driveway could be repaired without tearing it out.
What We Found
After inspecting the driveway, our team found several common causes of settlement:
- Soil beneath the driveway approach had settled over time.
- Small voids had formed underneath the concrete.
- Water infiltration had contributed to soil erosion.
- The driveway slab remained structurally sound but lacked proper support.
Since the concrete itself was in good condition, traditional mudjacking was the most practical and cost-effective solution.
How We Fixed It
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to raise and stabilize the driveway approach.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes were drilled through the settled section of the driveway to access the empty spaces beneath the slab.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Slab
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the driveway approach to fill the voids and gradually lift the concrete back to its proper height.
As the material filled the empty spaces, it restored support beneath the slab and eliminated the settlement.
Step 3: Patch & Clean Up
Once the driveway was properly aligned with the garage, the access holes were patched and the work area was cleaned.
The homeowner was able to use the driveway again shortly after the repair was completed.
The Results
The driveway approach was successfully lifted and stabilized without the expense of replacing the concrete.
The completed repair provided:
- A smoother transition into the garage
- Improved drainage around the driveway
- Proper support beneath the slab
- Better curb appeal
- A faster, more affordable alternative to replacement
The homeowner was pleased to have the driveway restored with minimal disruption.
Why Driveway Approaches Settle
Driveway approaches in Butler can settle as soil naturally shifts, compacts, or washes away beneath the concrete. Once voids develop, the slab loses support and begins to sink.
Traditional mudjacking fills these empty spaces, restores support below the concrete, and raises the slab back into position, helping extend the life of the existing driveway without the cost of replacement.
