The Problem
A homeowner in Woodburn contacted Restoration Concrete after noticing the driveway approach had begun to sink where it connected to the garage. The uneven surface created a noticeable bump every time they drove over it, and rainwater started collecting in the low spot instead of draining away.
Wanting to avoid further settlement and the expense of replacing the driveway, the homeowner looked for a repair solution that would restore the existing concrete.
What We Found
After inspecting the driveway approach, our team found:
- Soil beneath the slab had settled over time.
- Voids had developed underneath the concrete.
- Water infiltration had contributed to the loss of support.
- The driveway itself remained structurally sound.
Since the concrete was still in good condition, traditional mudjacking was the ideal repair solution.
How We Fixed It
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to raise and stabilize the settled driveway approach.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes were drilled through the affected section of the driveway to reach the empty spaces beneath the slab.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Slab
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the driveway approach to fill the voids and gradually raise the concrete back to its proper height.
As the material spread beneath the slab, it restored support and eliminated the settlement.
Step 3: Patch & Clean Up
Once the driveway approach was level again, the access holes were patched and the work area was cleaned.
The homeowner was able to resume normal use of the driveway shortly after the repair was completed.
The Results
The driveway approach was successfully raised and stabilized without replacing the existing concrete.
The completed repair provided:
- A smooth transition into the garage
- Improved drainage across the driveway
- Restored support beneath the slab
- Better curb appeal
- A faster and more affordable alternative to replacement
The homeowner was pleased with the results and the minimal disruption throughout the repair process.
Why Driveway Approaches Settle
Driveway approaches in Woodburn often settle because the soil beneath the concrete naturally compacts or washes away over time. Once the supporting soil is lost, the slab begins to sink and become uneven.
Traditional mudjacking fills the voids beneath the concrete, restores support, and raises the slab back into position, extending the life of the existing driveway without the cost of replacement.
