The Problem
A homeowner in Grabill contacted Restoration Concrete after noticing the driveway had settled where it met the curb. The uneven transition created a noticeable bump when driving in and out of the driveway, and the height difference had continued to worsen over time.
The homeowner wanted to restore the driveway to its original height and create a smoother transition that matched the adjacent concrete panels without replacing the slab.
What We Found
After inspecting the driveway, our team found:
- The driveway had settled at the curb.
- Soil beneath the slab had compacted over time.
- Voids had developed underneath the affected section.
- The surrounding concrete remained structurally sound.
Because the slab was still in good condition, traditional mudjacking was the most effective repair solution.
How We Fixed It
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to raise and support the driveway where it met the curb.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes were drilled through the settled portion of the driveway to reach the empty spaces beneath the slab.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Slab
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the concrete to fill the voids and carefully raise the driveway back toward its original height.
The lifting process was controlled to provide the best possible match with the adjacent concrete panels while restoring support beneath the slab.
Step 3: Patch & Clean Up
After the driveway was properly aligned, the drill holes were patched and the work area was cleaned.
The repair was completed quickly with minimal disruption to the homeowner.
The Results
The driveway was successfully raised and stabilized without replacing the existing concrete.
The completed repair provided:
- A smoother transition at the curb
- Better alignment with adjacent driveway panels
- Restored support beneath the slab
- Improved curb appeal
- A faster and more affordable alternative to replacement
The homeowner was pleased with the improved appearance and smoother access to the driveway.
Why Driveways Settle at the Curb
Driveways in Grabill often settle near the curb as soil beneath the slab naturally compacts or washes away over time. Once the supporting soil weakens, the concrete begins to sink and creates uneven transitions.
Traditional mudjacking fills the empty spaces beneath the slab, restores support, and raises the concrete back into position, helping extend the life of the existing driveway without the cost of replacement.
