The Problem
A homeowner in Paulding had a driveway that had settled and needed to be lifted and stabilized.
As concrete loses support underneath, sections of a driveway can gradually sink and become uneven. The driveway also had a crack that needed to be caulked as part of the repair.
Instead of tearing out concrete that could still be repaired, the goal was to raise the settled section, restore support beneath the slab, and seal the crack.
What We Found
After evaluating the driveway, Restoration Concrete determined that the existing concrete was a good candidate for mudjacking.
The project needed to address:
- Settled driveway concrete
- An uneven driveway surface
- Lost support beneath the slab
- A crack that needed to be sealed
- The possibility of continued movement if the problem was left untreated
The repair would address both the position of the slab and the crack at the surface.
How We Fixed It
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to lift and stabilize the settled driveway.
Step 1: Drill Access Holes
Small access holes were drilled through the affected driveway section to reach the areas beneath the concrete that needed additional support.
Step 2: Lift & Stabilize the Driveway
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the driveway.
As the material filled the spaces below the slab, it restored support and gradually raised the settled concrete toward a better position.
The lifting process was carefully controlled to improve the driveway’s alignment while supporting the concrete from underneath.
Step 3: Patch, Caulk & Clean
Once the driveway was lifted and stabilized, the access holes were patched.
The crack was then caulked to help limit water from entering through the opening and create a cleaner finished surface. The work area was cleaned after the repair was complete.
The Results
The driveway was successfully lifted, stabilized, and caulked while keeping the existing concrete in place.
The completed repair provided:
- Settled driveway concrete raised
- Better alignment across the driveway
- Support restored beneath the slab
- Uneven areas improved
- Crack professionally caulked
- Reduced opportunity for water to enter through the crack
- Existing concrete preserved
- No unnecessary driveway replacement
The homeowner was able to address the settlement and crack with a focused repair rather than tearing out the existing driveway.
Why Caulking the Crack Matters
Lifting the driveway addresses the settlement, but an open crack can still allow water to reach the areas beneath the concrete.
Caulking helps seal the opening and reduce water intrusion. This is especially important in areas that experience freezing temperatures because moisture beneath and around concrete can contribute to additional movement.
Combining mudjacking with crack caulking helps address both the support beneath the driveway and an opening at the surface.
Why Driveways Settle in Paulding
Driveways in Paulding can settle when the soil or base beneath the concrete shifts, compacts, or loses support.
Water intrusion and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles can also contribute to changing conditions beneath a driveway. Once the slab loses consistent support, sections of concrete can begin to sink.
Traditional mudjacking pumps a cement-based material beneath repairable concrete to fill unsupported areas, restore support, and raise settled sections without requiring complete replacement.
