The Problem
A homeowner in Angola contacted Restoration Concrete after noticing their driveway had started sinking near the garage entrance.
Over time, the settlement created a low spot where water would collect after rainstorms. The uneven concrete also made it difficult to pull vehicles smoothly into the garage without feeling a noticeable drop.
The homeowner wanted to fix the problem before the concrete cracked further or caused water issues near the garage foundation.
What We Found
During our inspection, we discovered:
- Voids underneath the driveway slab
- Soil settlement near the garage approach
- Water washing beneath the slab during heavy rain
- Uneven slab movement causing drainage problems
The concrete was still in good shape overall, so replacement was unnecessary.
How We Fixed It
Our team used traditional mudjacking to raise and stabilize the affected driveway panels without the cost and disruption of replacing the concrete.
Step 1: Drill Small Injection Holes
We drilled small access holes through the settled areas of the driveway.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Slab
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the slab to fill empty spaces and raise the driveway back into position.
The material restored support beneath the concrete and helped stabilize the slab from below.
Step 3: Patch the Surface
After raising the driveway, we patched the drill holes and cleaned the work area.
Most importantly, the driveway was ready to use again quickly.
The Results
The before-and-after difference was noticeable immediately.
The driveway now:
- Sits level with the garage floor again
- Drains water away more effectively
- Feels smoother when driving over it
- Has improved curb appeal
- Is stabilized underneath to help reduce future settlement
The homeowner was able to avoid a much larger and more expensive replacement project.
Why Concrete Driveways Sink in Angola
In Angola, freeze-thaw cycles, water erosion, and weak soil conditions can all lead to driveway settlement over time.
When water gets underneath the slab, it slowly washes away support beneath the concrete. Once voids form, the slab begins to crack, settle, and shift unevenly.
Concrete lifting fixes the problem below the surface while saving homeowners time and money.
