The Problem
A homeowner in Monroeville contacted Restoration Concrete after noticing the bottom half of their driveway had settled over time. The uneven concrete created a rough transition when driving onto the property, while the three sidewalk panels next to the driveway had also sunk, creating noticeable trip hazards.
The homeowner wanted to restore both the driveway and sidewalk without the expense and disruption of replacing the existing concrete.
What We Found
After inspecting the property, our team found several issues contributing to the settlement:
- The lower portion of the driveway had lost support beneath the slab.
- Three adjacent sidewalk sections had settled unevenly.
- Voids had formed beneath portions of the concrete.
- The slabs were structurally sound and good candidates for repair.
Because the concrete was still in good condition, traditional mudjacking was the best solution.
How We Fixed It
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to raise and stabilize both the driveway and the adjacent sidewalk.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes were drilled through the settled driveway and sidewalk sections to reach the empty spaces beneath the concrete.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Slabs
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the concrete to fill the voids and carefully raise the driveway and sidewalk back toward their original positions.
As the material filled the empty spaces, it restored support beneath the slabs and helped eliminate the uneven surfaces.
Step 3: Patch & Clean Up
Once the concrete was properly aligned, the access holes were patched and the work area was thoroughly cleaned.
The repair was completed quickly with minimal disruption to the homeowner.
The Results
The driveway and sidewalk were successfully raised and stabilized without replacing the concrete.
The completed repair provided:
- A smoother driveway entrance
- Safer sidewalks with trip hazards reduced
- Restored support beneath the concrete
- Improved curb appeal
- A faster and more affordable alternative to replacement
The homeowner was pleased to have both the driveway and sidewalk repaired during the same visit.
Why Driveways and Sidewalks Settle
Driveways and sidewalks in Monroeville can settle as soil beneath the concrete naturally compacts or washes away over time. Once support is lost, the slabs begin to sink, creating uneven surfaces and potential safety hazards.
Traditional mudjacking fills the voids beneath the concrete, restores support, and raises the slabs back into position, helping extend the life of the existing concrete without the cost of replacement.
