The Problem
A homeowner in Decatur contacted Restoration Concrete after noticing the concrete slab beneath their backyard shed had begun to settle. The uneven patio caused the shed to lean slightly, making the doors harder to open and raising concerns about long-term structural damage.
The homeowner wanted to stabilize the slab before the settlement became worse or required replacing the concrete.
What We Found
After inspecting the shed patio, our team found:
- The concrete slab had settled due to soil movement.
- Voids had developed beneath portions of the patio.
- Water runoff had contributed to the loss of support below the slab.
- The concrete itself remained in good condition.
Since the slab was structurally sound, traditional mudjacking was the most effective repair option.
How We Fixed It
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to raise and stabilize the shed patio.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes were drilled through the settled concrete slab to reach the empty spaces beneath it.
Step 2: Pump Mudjacking Material Beneath the Slab
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the patio to fill the voids and gradually raise the slab back to its proper elevation.
As the material filled the empty spaces, it restored solid support beneath the concrete and helped stabilize the shed.
Step 3: Patch & Clean Up
Once the patio was level, the drill holes were patched and the work area was cleaned.
The repair was completed quickly with minimal disruption to the homeowner’s property.
The Results
The shed patio was successfully raised and stabilized without replacing the concrete.
The completed repair provided:
- A level foundation for the shed
- Improved structural support beneath the slab
- Better drainage around the patio
- A smoother, more stable surface
- A cost-effective alternative to concrete replacement
The homeowner was pleased to have the shed sitting securely on a properly supported concrete slab once again.
Why Shed Patios Settle
Concrete shed pads and patios in Decatur can settle as the soil beneath them naturally compacts or washes away over time. Without proper support, the slab begins to sink, which can affect the stability of the structure above it.
Traditional mudjacking fills the voids beneath the concrete, restores support, and raises the slab back into position, helping extend the life of both the patio and the shed without the expense of replacement.
