The Problem
A homeowner in New Haven noticed sections of their driveway continuing to sink year after year.
At first, the issue seemed minor. But eventually, cracks began forming and parts of the driveway started feeling hollow underneath when vehicles drove across it.
The customer wanted to understand what was happening below the slab and whether the driveway could still be saved.
What We Found Beneath the Concrete
When our team inspected the driveway, we discovered significant voids underneath several panels.
Years of water intrusion and soil movement had caused portions of the supporting ground to erode away, leaving empty spaces beneath the slab.
Without proper support, the concrete had started:
- Sinking unevenly
- Cracking under pressure
- Allowing more water underneath
- Shifting near expansion joints
The slab itself was still salvageable, making stabilization and lifting the right solution.
How We Stabilized the Driveway
Restoration Concrete used traditional mudjacking to stabilize and raise the driveway from below.
Step 1: Drill Small Injection Points
We drilled small holes through the affected concrete panels to reach the empty spaces underneath.
Step 2: Fill Voids & Lift the Slab
A cement-based mudjacking material was pumped beneath the driveway.
As the material filled the voids, it helped:
- Fill empty spaces
- Stabilize weak areas beneath the concrete
- Raise the settled driveway
- Restore support beneath the slab
Step 3: Patch & Final Inspection
After the driveway was raised and stabilized, we patched the drill holes and checked the slab alignment and drainage.
The Results
The driveway was successfully stabilized and lifted without replacement.
The homeowner now has:
- A smoother, more even driveway
- Improved structural support beneath the slab
- Reduced water intrusion risks
- Better drainage performance
- A faster, cleaner repair process
Most importantly, the repair addressed the underlying problem below the concrete — not just the surface symptoms.
Why Stabilization Matters
In New Haven, driveway settlement is often caused by hidden voids and weak soil conditions beneath the slab.
If these issues are ignored, the concrete usually continues to crack and settle over time.
Traditional mudjacking helps fill empty spaces, restore support below the concrete, and raise the settled driveway without the high cost of replacement.
